As featured in the Dearborn Press and Guide, the Dearborn Federation of Teachers once again partnered with the AFT First Book program to provide new books to every student in three Dearborn Public Schools classrooms.
“As teachers, we know the importance of reading in children’s future success, and students love these books from First Book,” said DFT President Chris Sipperley.
Elementary school teacher Debbie Cummins watched students picking out their free books this fall and was impressed by what she saw.
“It didn’t matter if they were elementary, middle or high school students. I saw them using all the skills we teach them — read the back cover, read a few pages, and pick a book you like to read. It is heartwarming to know that we’re making a difference,” Cummins said.
