Detroit Casino Workers Need a Raise

Please do not patronize the casinos while our union siblings are on strike. Updates can be found at https://www.detroitcasinocouncil.org/

Thousands of Starbucks workers have voted, petitioned and picketed to demand Starbucks respect their right to form a union. These workers are demanding a voice in the workplace on issues of pay, scheduling, staffing and more.

Workers in more than 360 stores have voted to form a union so far.

Starbucks, which made $3.3 billion in profits last year, has responded with a brutal, anti-union campaign of threats, intimidation, firings and store closings.

That’s why Starbucks workers across the country will be going on strike on Red Cup Day, Nov. 16, Starbucks’ busiest sales day of the year. Workers are asking customers and supporters to hold solidarity actions across the US.

Support Starbucks workers by hosting your own action or RSVPing to one near you. Enter your zip code to get started!

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

Do you understand Native American sovereignty rights? Or what happened to Native kids in government boarding schools? Do you know any contemporary Native American artists? You and your students can learn about these topics and more in the Share My Lesson Indigenous Peoples collection of educational resources. Watch Taboo, of the Black Eyed Peas, explain how he balances his Latino and Shoshone identities; see the mural that kids painted to honor the tribe that once lived on the land now occupied by their school; and consider the impact our first Native American secretary of the interior has had on our nation. As with all Share My lesson content, these resources are free, created by and for educators
