AFT Webinar: Our Healthcare, Our Fight—How Washington’s Actions Threaten Working Families

With the Trump administration’s monthlong government shutdown, Congress’ failure to renew the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and more, we know that our members and families have a LOT of questions about healthcare.

That’s why this Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. EST, AFT President Randi Weingarten will host a discussion with Emily Gee from the Center for American Progress and Leslie Dach from Protect Our Care about how Washington’s budget battles and shutdown threats are driving up healthcare costs—even for union-negotiated plans.

In this webinar, we’ll expose how the system stacks the deck against working people, explain what to do if your coverage is at risk, and lay out how we can fight back together to protect affordable, high-quality healthcare for every worker. We’ll also share ways you can take action to make healthcare affordable. One way you can fight back is by telling our members of Congress to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, to keep healthcare affordable. Write a letter to your member of Congress here.

Support Starbucks Workers on Strike

Starbucks baristas across the country have done an incredible job organizing at more than 640 stores across the country—fighting for higher pay and better hours and staffing for more than 12,000 workers and counting.

These union baristas are making big news: With Starbucks’ busy holiday “red cup” season approaching, 92 percent of union baristas voted to authorize an unfair labor practice strike on Thursday, November 13, at corporate stores unless the company stops its union-busting and finalizes fair contracts.

The AFL-CIO and nearly 15 million members stand in solidarity with Starbucks Workers United. Please sign Starbucks baristas’ solidarity pledge in support of the strike at their corporate stores.
