VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
Given the large amount of absentee ballots cast, we are not likely to have all final results Tuesday night, but the barrage of ads and mail is almost over. Below is the link for all AFT Michigan endorsements starting with Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Over a quarter of AFT Michigan voters have already cast their ballot. For those voting on Election Day we ask you to support our endorsed candidates, which we make based on which candidates are best for public education and working families.
Thank you to all members who contributed to PAC, staffed phone banks or canvassed–thank you. You have carried the load for all of our members. For those races we win, we have you to thank.
This past Saturday and Sunday, as part of the Michigan AFL-CIO program, my 69 year old bones walked neighborhoods in Macomb County talking with union members advancing the candidacies of our endorsed candidates. While, as expected, most were UAW members, the second most were our AFT members. Meeting members I would not otherwise probably ever meet was the best part of the canvassing.
It’s As Easy As 1, 2, 3
AFT Michigan strongly recommends a Yes vote on all three state-wide proposals. Proposal 1 requires financial disclosure of state elected officials and positively reforms term limits. Proposal 2 increases access to voting and fights against voter suppression. Proposal 3 would protect a woman’s right to make decisions about her body, her health. 1,2,3–Yes, Yes Yes.
What Does Brian Zahra Have in Common with Herschel Walker?
Brian Zahra is on the ballot for re-election to the Michigan Supreme Court. He is anti-choice and voted to keep Proposal 3 off of the ballot.
Zahra believes a woman has no right to make decisions about her body except when it impacts Zahra. As reported by numerous news sources, his ex-wife has indicated that when he impregnated her when she was his girlfriend, that’s right, Zahra and his then girlfriend decided to have an abortion, which Zahra paid for. Michigan’s very own Herschel Walker.
Do not forget to vote the non-partisan part of your ballot for Justice Richard Bernstein and current State Rep Kyra Bolden. When Bolden wins, she will become the first African-American woman to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court.
