As Judith Sheldon of the Wayne State Union of Part-Time Faculty sent in an email, “I just completed the 6 session series with Meenakshi and Lois.  It was terrific. So many resources and thoughtful discussions!” When I took the course, I also had a great experience and hope as many leaders as possible take advantage of the opportunity. We plan to offer another cohort of the JLC Core Course next school year – keep your eyes open for the chance to sign up!

Celebrate the Anniversary of the 1932 Ford Hunger March

The Ford Hunger March was a key moment in unionizing the auto industry.  In March 1932, unemployed workers and their supporters marched to Dearborn demanding that Ford share work hours by lowering the work week to 32 hours and make contributions to relief funds.  At the time Detroit’s unemployment rate was 43% with four people on average dying in Detroit’s main hospital every day from malnutrition.   The marchers were met by the Dearborn Police and Ford’s armed thugs who fired into the crowd — killing five and injuring 61 more.
