Lincoln Consolidated Transportation Workers say “AFT YES”
We’re excited to welcome the Lincoln Consolidated Transportation Union (AFT Local 6740), which represents about 40 bus drivers, aides and mechanics, to AFT Michigan. The great organizing work was led by President Kaki Prater, Secretary Deidre Burns and Treasurer April Mullins.
We appreciate the Lincoln Consolidated Schools administration voluntarily recognizing the union upon a clear majority indicating their desire to be represented by AFT Michigan. And thanks to Randy Liepa, former superintendent of Wayne RESA, for serving as the neutral third party who verified the majority support.
Budget Negotiations Continue In Lansing
The Governor, House and Senate have all issued budget proposals for PreK-12 School Aid, Community Colleges and Universities. The Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference on May 20, 2022 found revenues were up a total of $2.03 billion, with the General Fund $1.1 billion higher than expected and the School Aid Fund $948.7 million higher. These estimates led to negotiations between the three branches to resolve their differences in the budgets which are expected to be finalized by the Legislature sometime before or shortly after the 4th of July holiday.
