We condemn the outrageous acts of vandalism at the home of University of Michigan Regent Jordan Acker and his family. Such violence and intimidation are utterly unacceptable and continue a campaign of intimidation and harassment against Regent Acker. AFT Michigan believes deeply in free speech and peaceful, non-violent protest; however, there is an important difference between breaking an unjust law using non-violent tactics and attempts to intimidate and bully.
We thank Regent Acker for his many years of progressive community activism, including his support for workers and their unions, and call on all people of conscience to come together in solidarity to reject bigotry and violence across our state.
