On August 18, the Dearborn Federation of School Employees social committee led a community effort to assemble a bag of supplies for each of the incoming 1,565 kindergarten students in Dearborn, taught by 77 kindergarten teachers in 22 of the district’s elementary schools.

“It’s just been a great community effort,” DFSE social committee chair Joyce McCreary said. “This is what a union is supposed to be doing. A union helps the community, the community helps the union. We are the community, we are the union. This is what communities are supposed to do. These are our brothers and sisters. We help each other out, and there is a need in our community, and we, the union, needed to help.”
