MICHIGAN — The American Federation of Teachers Michigan released the following statement in a show of solidarity with the National Adjunct Walkout Day.

“Adjunct faculty in our state’s colleges and universities educate tens of thousands of students. These faculty are grossly underpaid, have little if any job security, rarely health care, and often times do not have an office to work from. They deserve to be treated with respect, including proper compensation, job security and access to health care. We are proud to represent adjuncts throughout Michigan,” said David Hecker, president of AFT Michigan. “We will continue to advocate for educators through every level of our education system, from pre-school to our public elementary schools to our state’s colleges and universities. Empowering teachers is the best way to help students, which ultimately improves our state and country.”
