AFT Michigan Endorses Dana Nessel for Attorney General
Students, educators deserve a voice in the Office of Attorney General

MICHIGAN — Today, AFT Michigan endorsed Dana Nessel for Michigan Attorney General. The endorsement is based on Nessel’s support for public education and her commitment to protect the right to collective bargaining for all workers.

“Dana Nessel’s extensive legal career makes her uniquely qualified to serve as Michigan’s next Attorney General. Whether she is representing victims of hate crimes, defending the poor, or serving as a champion for the most marginalized communities in our state, Dana has always provided a voice for the voiceless,” said David Hecker, president of AFT Michigan. “Our members are impressed with her commitment to public education, her belief in collective bargaining and her support of better wages for all Michigan workers. When Dana is Michigan Attorney General, our state will finally once again have someone in this critical office we can truly call “the people’s lawyer.”

AFT Michigan has earlier endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for Governor citing her solid record of standing up for public education. In addition, AFT Michigan has endorsed Jocelyn Benson for Secretary of State.

“For the past eight years of total Republican control, our students have seen cuts to their classrooms, our members have had their labor rights attacked and paychecks diminished,” Hecker continued. “With Dana Nessel as our next Attorney General and Gretchen Whitmer as our next Governor, students and educators can start each school day knowing our elected officials are on their side.”
