ORGANIZING

The ability of the MFT&SRP and our locals to succeed at the bargaining table, as well as, in the legislative and political arenas, is determined by our power. Power comes from hard work, ability and a growing and active membership. Our union grows through organizing. By organizing groups of employees who are not in unions and by affiliating independent locals (locals not part of an AFL-CIO union or the MEA) we grow and increase our power.

Organizing is of benefit to those who organize. Given that it increases our power it is also of direct benefit to current members.

Organizing increases political clout, which increases legislative effectiveness. When you consider that the legislative votes on public school (including higher education) funding, retirement benefits for most of our members, the status of charter schools and our collective bargaining rights, among many other issues, it is clear why organizing is so important.
