David Hecker and MEA President Steve Cook wrote a joint column featured in the Detroit Free Press last week on State Superintendent Brian Whiston’s reductions in state standardized testing. Hecker and Cook made the argument for reduced testing time so students and teachers can spend more time teaching and learning.

Hecker and Cook have parents on their side — recent polls suggest parents are joining teachers and students in their high-stakes testing fatigue.
