SCHOOL RELATED PERSONNEL
68th CONVENTION
MAY 6-7, 2005
RESOLUTION #6
COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO REGAIN OUR STUDENTS

WHEREAS, Over the past several years due to the advancement of schools of choice, charter schools and the false hope they promote, students have been leaving public school districts; and

WHEREAS, Dramatic cuts in federal and state funding, mounting expenditures, in terms of operational costs, supplies, benefits and declining enrollment, have threatened the quality of educational programs, undermined standards and caused cut backs in much needed services; and

WHEREAS, Declining enrollment has caused schools to be closed, programs to be cut, class sizes to increase and employees to lose their jobs; and

WHEREAS: Communities suffer economically from declining enrollment with fewer state and federal dollars coming into the schools; NOW THEREFORE BE IT

RESOLVED: That K-12 locals consider working with district administration, preferably to develop a plan to attract students back into the district; and BE IT FINALLY

RESOLVED: That MFT&SRP will work with locals concerning the development and implementation of these plans.
